Business Licenses


Pursuant to Governor Hogan’s Executive Order No. 21-03-09-03, dated March 9, 2021, all licenses, permits, registrations, and other authorizations issued by the State of Maryland, any agency of the State of Maryland, or any political subdivision of the State of Maryland, including, without limitation, driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, and professional licenses that would have an expiration date or be renewable during the state of emergency and catastrophic health emergency will be extended to June 30, 2021.

In addition, any business licenses which will need to be renewed for the 2019 license year and prior will be assessed a penalty as they were already expired and were not renewed, and thus delinquent, before the State of Emergency and Catastrophic Health Emergency took effect on March 5, 2020.

The License Department is experiencing a high level of phone calls and emails regarding business license renewals, new business licenses and other important questions. Please note, if you have submitted your business license renewal application and associated fees via drop box or mail, please allow 4 to 6 weeks for your renewal to be processed. Your patience is appreciated.

Appointments are required for in-person service. Please read the information below relating to obtaining a new business.

Business License Renewals

The Business License Division issues licenses and accepts renewals of Licenses for certain specified Maryland businesses located within Prince George's County. To find out whether you are required to obtain a business license from the Clerk's Office go to State of Maryland Business License Information System (BLIS).

If you are renewing your business licenses, please mail your renewal application along with the associated fee (check or money order) to the Clerk’s Office, 14735 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772. Or place the renewal application along with the associated fee in the drop box located in the atrium of the Judicial Admirative Services Building located at 14701 Governor Oden Bowie Dr., Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.

All renewal applications with Prince George's County Finance Office or Comptroller of Maryland holds must be resolved before your application can be processed by the Clerk's Office.

All municipality taxes must be paid prior to submitting your application to the Clerk's Office.  The renewal application must include a tax clearance letter.  Please contact the appropriate municipality government office directly for more information.
