(UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – November 30, 2016) Recognized as a best practice for victim support and services, the Prince George's County Family Justice Center (PGCFJC) is pleased to announce receipt of a two-year grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention totaling nearly $773,000.

The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant will support the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center’s continued collaborative initiative with its stakeholders to eliminate barriers for service and enhance victims’ access to critically-needed resources in the aftermath of trauma and victimization. Additionally, the award will support the cost of personnel, equipment, training, public awareness and transportation for survivors seeking services through the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center.

“This award allows the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center to further its mission and goals,” said the Honorable Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Administrative Judge for Prince George’s County. “I applaud Prince George’s County Family Justice Center Director Denise C. McCain and the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center team for their concerted effort to provide stellar programs to the community.”

Established by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984, the Crime Victims Fund is a major funding source for victim services throughout the nation. Millions of dollars have been deposited into the Fund annually from criminal fines, forfeited bail bonds, penalties and special assessments collected by U.S. Attorneys' Offices, federal U.S. courts, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, according to the Office of Justice Programs website.

“VOCA funding will provide much needed operational support that will enable the Family Justice Center to enhance its service delivery with new programs and targeted outreach which will increase our visibility and presence in the community,” added Mrs. McCain.
