‘In A Perfect World’ is a reality in the Family Justice Center’s waiting area
(Upper Marlboro, MD - Monday, August 28, 2017) – Broad paint strokes and big smiles set the stage in the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center, an initiative of the Circuit Court, Children’s Waiting Room, as artists, community members, Prince George’s County leadership and partnering agencies gathered to view the unveiling of the mural, ‘In A Perfect World,’ on Friday, August 25, 2017.
“I’m still in awe of this amazing masterpiece, ‘In A Perfect World,’” said the Honorable Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Administrative Judge of the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County. “The mural created by Ms. Mavis Turner and the More Than Conqueror artists injected an atmosphere of hope, aspiration and happiness into the Family Justice Center. The hands of the young people are truly meaningful as the kids who frequent the Children’s Waiting Room will know that someone just like them created the painting. I would like to thank Ms. Turner for bringing our idea to fruition and for the support of Denise C. McCain, Prince George’s County Family Justice Center Director, and the many partners housed in the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center.”
The mural incorporates the message of the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center, “Changing Lives, Restoring Hope” which poignantly illustrates a vision in which survivors and their children live in homes and communities that are safe and free from violence. Moreover, the images and messaging in the mural embody the fundamental principles and guiding philosophy of the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center as it strives to increase safety, promote healing and foster empowerment for survivors and their families.
“The mural by Ms. Mavis Turner and the artists truly exceeded my expectations,” said Ms. McCain. “I believe the children who visit the room will not only feel comfortable but be able to envision a life as depicted in the mural. The meaning, message and motivation of the beautiful painting definitively encapsulate the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center, perfectly.”
